Using the Soames Feature Block

The Soames Feature block pairs a block of content with an image, side by side — a titled write-up on one side and a supporting image on the other. It’s the block to reach for when you want to highlight a single idea with a picture next to it.

What it’s for

Use it for feature highlights, product call-outs, “about” sections, or anywhere you want a short piece of formatted content shown alongside an image. The block gives you four fields: a title, a content area that accepts HTML, an image, and an optional CSS class for styling.

Adding a Feature block

  1. In the editor, click the + button to open the block inserter.
  2. Search for Soames Feature (you’ll find it in the Soames block category) and insert it.
  3. Fill in the Title, add your Content (HTML), and choose an image (see below).

Choosing an image

You have two ways to set the image:

  • Pick from the Media Library (recommended). Click Select image to open the WordPress media picker, where you can upload a new image or choose an existing one. Once selected, a small thumbnail preview appears; use Replace image to swap it or Clear to remove it.
  • Paste a URL. If your image already lives somewhere, paste its address into the Image URL field underneath the picker. The picker and the URL field control the same image, so you only need one of them.

Writing the content

The Content (HTML) field is a multi-line area, so you have room to write and paste real HTML. It accepts both inline formatting — bold, italic, and links — and block-level HTML such as headings, paragraphs, and lists. That means you can structure a feature’s content with more than one paragraph or a short bulleted list, not just a single line of text.

The Title field sits above the content and is shown as the feature’s heading, and the optional CSS Class field lets a developer target this block for custom styling. Both can be left blank.

Example

Here is a Soames Feature block in action — a title, an image, and content that uses a paragraph followed by a short list:

The Soames Feature block keeps content and its image together, so a highlight always looks intentional:

  • Pick an image straight from your Media Library.
  • Write real HTML — headings, paragraphs, and lists all work.
  • Publish and the public site rebuilds automatically.

Tips

  • Keep the content focused on a single feature — the block is designed to spotlight one idea at a time.
  • Choose an image with a similar shape each time you use the block, so features line up consistently down a page.
  • Use Preview to check how the content and image sit together before you publish.
  • As with all edits, your changes go live on the public site about a minute after you publish.
