Welcome to the Editor Guide. This is the starting point for everyone who writes and manages content on this site — no coding required. It explains how the site works from an editor’s point of view and how your changes reach visitors.
Who this is for
If you create or edit pages, blog posts, or Knowledge Base articles in WordPress, this guide is for you. You don’t need to know anything about the technology behind the site — just the WordPress editor.
How the site works
You author content in WordPress, but visitors see a fast, separate public website. When you publish a change, the public site is rebuilt automatically and your update appears a short time later — usually about a minute. There’s nothing extra to click for most edits: publish, and it goes live.
The practical takeaways for editors:
- Your changes are not instant — allow a minute or so after publishing for them to appear on the live site.
- Drafts are private. Nothing appears publicly until you publish.
- Use Preview to see how a post looks before you publish it.
Editing basics
Content is built in the WordPress block editor. You add and arrange blocks — paragraphs, headings, images, lists, and more — to compose a page. The main content types you’ll work with are:
- Pages — standalone pages such as Home, About, or Contact.
- Posts — dated blog entries that appear in the blog listing.
- Knowledge Base articles — help and documentation articles (like the one you’re reading), which can be organized into a hierarchy and ordered.
Alongside the standard WordPress blocks, this site includes a set of Soames blocks — purpose-built blocks for the site’s distinctive sections and layouts. You’ll find them in the block inserter (the + button) grouped together. Detailed, per-block instructions are covered in the articles nested under this guide.
Publishing and when changes go live
- Write or edit your content in the block editor.
- Use Preview to check it, then choose Publish (or Update for existing content).
- Wait about a minute for the public site to rebuild, then reload the live page to see your change.
